Go Karting!

Friday was a fairly excellent day. I was in London for some training on the 1Dx, it's AF system is insane and even a whole day only covers part of what it can do. To test it out we got to take turns racing and shooting go karts!

Things kicked off with a powerpoint while we munched on a breakfast of bacon butties and pastries.

These were all shot with my 6D and either the 24-70mm f/2.8 Mk2 or the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS Mk2. Considering it's really not built for this kind of thing it did very well. The hit rate on a 1Dx though, phenomenal.

TO

It's nothing particularly special, just excitement at owning a camera capable of making a photo that looks like what I 'saw'.

(or did not see but imagined while looking at/to/past/through.)

365

Two blog posts in two days?! I don't expect this to carry on beyond tonight...

There was one thing I forgot to mention in my last post, after considering it for a month or so I have decided to embark on a second 365 self-portrait project.

My motivations are much the same as before.

  • I want to ensure I'm taking photos regularly, having a structure stops me from making excuses.
  • I want to get better at digital post-processing, I've been very lax on this front as I all but stopped practicing when I started Uni and began exclusively shooting film.
  • Also, if all goes to plan, this year will be an unusually eventful one and definitely something I want to document.
I think I'm off to a fairly strong start, hopefully I'll miss fewer days this time around. We will see! I'll be posting everything over at http://threesixfiveportraits.tumblr.com but I may put particular favourites up here as well. For now, here are days 001 and 002...

5 or so months later

Somehow it's the 1st of January again.

2012 was a strange year. All the while I was in the middle of it I felt like I wasn't 'doing enough' or that things were not happening 'fast enough'. Enough, enough, enough.

On reflection, I did a lot. Things happened quickly at some points and slowly at others but they happened nonetheless. There is only so much you can plan for. I've ticked a few items off of my 'bucket list' or '30 things before 30 list' (it's really just a 'stuff I very badly want to see/do/try list') which feels very good.

Really, 2012 wasn't a strange year at all. Some stuff was disappointing, much of it was incredibly exciting, parts were awfully stressful but the largest amount was something in the middle of all those things. Just normal. Bring on 2013.

I've not taken many photos over the last couple of months due to working a lot of extra hours but I've picked out some of my favourites from the last 5 months and one from today.
